Website redesign pricing: what a redesign costs and why quotes vary

Ask three designers to quote for a redesign and you can get three very different numbers. Usually they aren’t quoting for the same thing. This guide explains what a redesign should include, what it costs with me, and how to compare quotes fairly.
What a redesign should include
A redesign is more than a new colour scheme. A proper one covers:
- A look at what you have now: which pages bring in visits and enquiries, which don’t, and what customers can’t find.
- New design and structure, made for your business rather than a template with your logo dropped in.
- Your content, rewritten where it needs to be, so each page answers the questions people actually ask.
- Protecting your Google rankings: every old page address mapped to its new one, with redirects in place on launch day.
- Testing on real phones, forms checked end to end, and speed checked before launch.
If a quote doesn’t mention redirects or moving your existing content, ask. That’s where cheap redesigns lose the rankings you already had.
Why quotes vary so much
- Page count. Redesigning five pages is a different job to redesigning thirty.
- Who writes the words. Some quotes assume you supply every word; others include rewriting.
- Template or bespoke design. A lightly adjusted template is quicker than a design made for your business.
- Features. Booking, payments, member areas or a shop add real work.
- Migration care. Mapping and redirecting every old address takes time, and it’s the step most often skipped.
What it costs with SR7
My prices are fixed and published:
- Starter, £295: up to 5 pages, works on every device, contact form and map, basic local search set-up and 2 rounds of changes before launch. Good for a sole trader with a small, dated site.
- Growth, £595: up to 10 pages, a design made for your business, a blog set up, local search set-up for the areas you cover, your Google Business Profile tidied up and 3 rounds of changes. Most local businesses choose this.
- Bespoke, from £995: booking systems, member areas, ecommerce, larger sites or anything that needs custom functionality, quoted after a conversation about what you need.
Every redesign includes mapping your old pages to the new ones so your search history comes with you. The quote lists what’s included before you commit to anything.
How long it takes
As a guide, most sites take one to two weeks once I have your content and photos. Bespoke builds take longer, and you’ll get a date in writing before we start. The thing that most often holds a redesign up isn’t design or code; it’s waiting for words and photos, so it helps to start gathering them early.
Will a redesign protect my existing rankings?
It should, if it’s done carefully. The risk comes from changed page addresses with no redirects, deleted pages that were quietly bringing in searches, and copy cut back for the sake of a cleaner look. I’ve written up the full process in how to redesign a website without losing your Google rankings, with real numbers from rebuilding this site.
Ongoing costs after a redesign
After launch you’ll have your domain renewal, hosting, and looking after the site. Care plans are optional: Website Care is £25 a month on your own hosting, or Managed Website Care is £50 a month with hosting included, both with 30 days’ notice to cancel.
How to compare quotes fairly
Put each quote side by side and check:
- How many pages are included, and what happens if you need more?
- Who writes or rewrites the content?
- Are redirects from your old pages included?
- How many rounds of changes do you get before launch?
- Who owns the website, the domain and the hosting account afterwards?
- What does support cost after launch, and is it optional?
Common questions
Can I keep my domain and email?
Yes. A redesign changes the website, not your domain name or your email addresses.
Can the old site stay live while you build the new one?
Yes. The new site is built separately and switched over in one go, so customers never see a half-built page.
Not sure whether you need a redesign or a few fixes? I’ll review your site for free, or get in touch for a fixed quote.
